When I was a child, I often played with common objects. Cups and glasses would be buildings. Forks and knives would be people. The TV remote would be a spaceship.

People often place objects in practical configurations or for purposes of decoration in their homes and places of work. To me, this seems to evoke a presence of consciousness.  It bespeaks a sense of hope and optimism to try to improve life’s experience. These arrangements can evoke qualities of an effigy or a shrine. They pay homage to being.

Common objects give me an impetus for the ritual of painting. I paint them to celebrate these ideas.
