"Recollection of Place"  
an exhibition of paintings by Bob Karstadt

 I have periodically had this certain feeling for as long as I can remember of a memory of a great fall day when I was young. I am not sure if the feeling evokes the memory or the memory evokes the feeling. I am not even sure if the day ever happened and the memory is actual. I can tell you that the feeling that comes with this is welcome because it is good.

      These paintings and drawings are in response to the recollection of the places I have experienced. These recollections of places are of actual places I have the experience, dreams, memory, imagination, film, TV, magazines, books, paintings, literature, music, photos, conversation, and media sources.

      These recollections give me the impetus for the ritual of painting. I paint these recollections to celebrate them.
